These breathing practices were given by Hazrat Inayat Khan to purify our breath. In doing this we can also understand that we are purifying the atmosphere around us. This is important during this time that the coronavirus is carried in the air. The air is shared by every being on this planet that breathes - and this is most of us. So take some time to purify the air within and around you.
Having practiced the five directions of breathing (in and out nostrils, in nostril out mouth, in mouth out nostril, in and out mouth, subtle in and out nostrils) we can now add a visual concentration. Each visual concentration is done with the eyes shut. This is very important. With the eyes shut you can concentrate on five different points (and not become cross-eyed).
- With eyes shut, concentrate your inner gaze on the tip of the nose. Imagine the color yellow. Breath in and out through the nose for five breaths.
- With eyes shut, concentrate your inner gaze on the bridge of the nose. Imagine the color green. Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth for five breaths.
- With the eyes shut, concentrate your inner gaze on the third eye (center of the forehead just above the eyebrows). Imagine the color red. Breathe in through the mouth and out through the nose for five breaths.
- With the eyes shut, concentrate your inner gaze on the top of the head (the crown chakra). Imagine the color blue. Breathe in and out through the mouth for five breaths.
- With the eyes shut, concentrate your gaze about 18 inches above your head. Imagine a subtle violet color or crystal clear light rising from the crown chakra. Breathe in and out through the nose, a very subtle breath. There is no count.
- Throughout this practice concentrate on the purification and healing of the atmosphere of our earth.
